From Here. For Here.
“James Michael Bowers is the right choice. As a lifelong resident of northeast Lincoln, he will be a strong fighter for the needs of our neighbors.” – Former City Councilman Doug Emery
I’m a lifelong resident of Northeast Lincoln, and a graduate of Northeast High. I’m a social worker at Dawes Middle School, and a small business owner in Havelock.
For me, fighting for Northeast Lincoln means fighting for working families. As the son of a single mom, I know what it’s like to struggle to make ends meet. At 14, I got my first job at Burger King in Havelock, and learned the value of hard work.
Currently, I am a social worker at Dawes Middle School, and I work as a therapist through the private practice I founded. Before Dawes, I worked at the Child Guidance Center, Bryan Health, and with the Nebraska Children and Families Foundation, where I developed coalitions and strategies to improve Nebraska’s foster care system
I’ve been active in the community since I was a teenager. As current Vice President for the Lincoln-Lancaster County Board of Health, I work with city and county partners to advocate for a healthier Lincoln. Previously, I have served on the Board of Directors for the Fresh Start Home, a shelter empowering women experiencing homelessness. I served two terms as the Board President for the Northeast Family Center, where I began volunteering in high school.
I’m running so I can keep working hard for the community that has been such an important part of my life.
